Authorship Criteria

Authorship Criteria

Child Education Journal

Child Education Journal, published by Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya, is committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, fairness, and integrity in authorship and contributorship. The journal establishes clear authorship criteria to recognize genuine scholarly contributions, prevent inappropriate authorship practices, and promote responsible research publication. This policy is informed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidance on authorship, contributorship, and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.

1. Eligibility for Authorship

Authorship must be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript. Every listed author is expected to meet the following criteria:

  1. Make a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the study, data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation.
  2. Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising its important intellectual content.
  3. Review and approve the final manuscript before submission and publication.
  4. Accept accountability for their contributions and cooperate in resolving questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of the research.

Individuals who contribute only through administrative assistance, general supervision, funding acquisition, language editing, or technical support without fulfilling the journal's authorship criteria should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section, subject to their consent.

2. Author Contributions (CRediT)

Child Education Journal encourages transparent disclosure of individual contributions using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), where applicable. Authors should identify their actual roles, which may include:

  • Conceptualization
  • Data Curation
  • Formal Analysis
  • Funding Acquisition
  • Investigation
  • Methodology
  • Project Administration
  • Resources
  • Software
  • Supervision
  • Validation
  • Visualization
  • Writing - Original Draft
  • Writing - Review & Editing

Important: CRediT describes individual contributions but does not independently determine authorship eligibility. All listed authors must satisfy the journal's authorship criteria.

3. Author Order and Corresponding Author

The order of authors must be agreed upon collectively before manuscript submission and should accurately reflect the authors' agreed attribution of scholarly contributions. The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the editorial office, confirming that all authors have approved the manuscript, maintaining accurate authorship information, coordinating responses to editorial inquiries, and ensuring that all authors are informed of significant decisions during the publication process.

4. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

Child Education Journal does not permit the following practices:

  • Gift Authorship: Including an individual who has not made a qualifying scholarly contribution.
  • Guest Authorship: Adding an individual primarily to increase the manuscript's perceived prestige or acceptance prospects.
  • Ghost Authorship: Omitting an individual who meets the authorship criteria or concealing substantial contributions.
  • Unauthorized Authorship: Listing an individual without their knowledge or approval.
  • Authorship Manipulation: Misrepresenting contributions or changing authorship information for inappropriate purposes.

5. Changes in Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after submission must be submitted to the editorial office with a clear explanation and written agreement from all affected authors, including any author being added or removed. The editorial team will evaluate the request in accordance with relevant COPE guidance.

Authorship changes after publication may require a formal correction notice. If agreement cannot be reached, the journal may suspend editorial processing and refer the matter to the authors' affiliated institutions for investigation or resolution.

6. Authorship Disputes and Research Misconduct

Allegations of inappropriate authorship, undisclosed contributors, disputed author order, or other authorship-related misconduct will be assessed fairly and confidentially. The editorial team may request contribution statements, correspondence, institutional documentation, or other relevant evidence. Where necessary, the journal will follow applicable COPE flowcharts and seek clarification or investigation from the relevant institution.

Editorial decisions will be made according to the available evidence, the journal's policies, and established publication ethics procedures. Editors do not ordinarily adjudicate unresolved disputes over the relative intellectual contributions of researchers.

7. Generative Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) systems and other AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot independently approve manuscripts, assume responsibility for research integrity, or fulfill the accountability requirements of authorship.

Human authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and ethical compliance of all submitted content, including material developed with AI assistance. Authors must disclose the use of AI tools in accordance with the journal's Artificial Intelligence Policy.

8. Authorship Declaration at Submission

By submitting a manuscript to Child Education Journal, the corresponding author confirms that:

  • All listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.
  • No qualifying author has been intentionally omitted.
  • All authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript.
  • All contributors are appropriately acknowledged.
  • The authorship order and contribution statements are accurate and collectively agreed upon.
  • All authors agree to comply with the journal's publication ethics and editorial policies.
