Abstract

Nursing education must continue to be developed in Indonesia, laboratory learning methods are an important thing that is still an issue today. Some obstacles faced when students go to the clinic are poor student skills, practicum hours, the number of laboratory assistants, and appropriate learning methods to practice clinical skills in the laboratory. This study aims to analyze the skills and abilities of handling Basic Life Support (BLS) in nursing students using peer education and simulation methods. The study used a Quasy-experimental design with a pre- and post-experimental design, sampling using the Consecutive Sampling technique with a total of 60 nursing students with inclusion criteria. The instruments used in the study used Standard Operating Procedures and BLS Practicum Checklist sheets and knowledge instruments about BLS with validity and reliability test results using Cronbach's alpha > 0.70, Practicum tools used phantom and AED Simulator. The results of the study are there is an increase in student knowledge and competence using simulation with peer education methods after intervention. Discussions with mutual interaction in practicums using peer methods make students more challenged to always learn and increase motivation to carry out practicums independently with the help of peers.
