Abstract

Educational support staff play an important role in supporting the quality of academic and administrative services in higher education institutions. However, high workloads, multiple job responsibilities, organizational changes, and limited psychological support may contribute to increased occupational stress. As a newly established institution, Sunan Gresik University faces challenges in developing effective work systems while maintaining the psychological well-being of its human resources. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of educational support staff in recognizing and managing occupational stress through a psychology-based stress management education program.

The program involved 16 staffs from Campus B of Sunan Gresik University and was conducted on June 22, 2026. The intervention applied educational, participatory, and empowerment-based approaches through stress management education, interactive discussions, self-reflection activities, stress management simulations, and practical exercises using the Weekly Planner and Workload Control Sheet. Program effectiveness was evaluated through pre-test and post-test assessments measuring participants’ understanding of occupational stress, psychological well-being, and stress management strategies.

The results indicated an improvement in participants’ knowledge after the intervention. The mean score increased from 39.5 in the pre-test to 72.0 in the post-test, with an average increase of 32.5 points. Furthermore, 93.75% of participants achieved a very high knowledge category after the program. These findings demonstrate that psychoeducation-based stress management interventions combined with practical activities are effective in enhancing participants’ understanding and ability to manage workplace stress.

This program highlights the importance of structured stress management education as an effort to strengthen human resource capacity and promote a healthier, adaptive, and productive work environment in higher education institutions.
