Peer Review Policies

The Journal of Halal Research, Policy, and Industry (JHRPI) is committed to implementing a fair, transparent, and rigorous peer review process to ensure the publication of high-quality scholarly work. Our editorial and review structure is designed to uphold integrity, encourage innovation, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of halal research, policy, and industry practices.

1. Submission and Initial Evaluation

  • Online Submission: All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system.

  • Preliminary Check: Upon submission, each manuscript is initially screened by the Managing Editor to verify its relevance to the journal's scope, completeness, formatting, ethical compliance, and adherence to submission guidelines.

  • Desk Rejection: Manuscripts that fail to meet the basic criteria may be rejected at this stage without being sent for peer review.

2. Double-Blind Peer Review

  • Reviewer Assignment: Manuscripts passing the initial screening are assigned to at least two independent peer reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area.

  • Anonymity: JHRPI applies a double-blind review system, where both the reviewers and authors remain anonymous throughout the review process, ensuring impartiality and eliminating potential conflicts of interest.

  • Review Criteria: Reviewers assess the manuscript based on originality, relevance, scientific validity, research methodology, clarity, and contribution to the field.

  • Decision Timeline: The standard review period is 4–8 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and manuscript complexity.

  • Reviewer Recommendation: Each reviewer provides a detailed report and recommends one of the following outcomes:

    • Accept

    • Minor revision

    • Major revision

    • Reject

3. Editorial Decision and Revision Process

  • Decision Process: Based on the reviewers’ feedback, the Editor-in-Chief—assisted by the Managing Editor—makes the final editorial decision.

  • Author Notification: Authors are informed of the decision and receive constructive reviewer comments.

  • Revision Handling: If revisions are requested, authors are given detailed guidance and sufficient time to address all reviewer and editor feedback. Revised manuscripts may be sent for a second round of review, particularly in the case of major revisions.

4. Editorial Board Consultation

  • The Editorial Board provides strategic input and expert recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief, especially for manuscripts with complex issues or those falling outside typical editorial guidelines.

  • Board members may also be invited to review manuscripts that require specialized insight.

5. Editorial Workflow and Support

  • The Managing Editor oversees the editorial workflow, ensuring timely responses, ethical compliance, and smooth communication between authors, reviewers, and editors.

  • An Editorial Assistant provides administrative support, tracks manuscript progress, and facilitates operational efficiency throughout the peer review and publication process.

6. Publication Workflow

  • Post-Acceptance: Accepted manuscripts undergo professional copyediting and layout formatting to ensure consistency in language, citation style, and overall structure.

  • Author Proofing: Authors are provided with final proofs for approval prior to publication.

  • Open Access Publishing: Final versions of accepted articles are published online and made freely available to the global research community.
